Scientist creates prototype Babelfish October 29, 2005
Via we make money not art, I’ve found a link to a scientist at Carnegie Mellon who has created a device that translated whispered words from one language to another. The applications for communication are obvious, but a quick scan of the paper [pdf] make it clear that the technology is also a step toward devices that recognize “sub-vocalization,” a standard of many a fine sci fi story.
