New computer chip = brains + silicon March 28, 2006
As we all know, it’s early days still for the full-on man-machine fusion of organic brains and computer chips. But another hurdle on the path to complete cyborg assimilation has been cleared.
Italian scientists have successfully fused a silicon chip with living neurons, creating a hybrid semiconductor. There’s no application for this technology yet, but the LiveScience article I got this from talks specifically about treating neurological disorders, creating “living computers” or testing drugs on the brain chips.
